The Opera Mini Web browser data compression app [corrected0 for mobile devices has just been updated to version 5.1. It has been optimized for phones with limited memory and smaller screens.

It includes a new skin that allows more pages to be open simultaneously and also offers faster scrolling and improved overall performance. Since the app compresses data as much as 90 percent, it can result in significant savings for those on pay-as-you-go-per-MB data plans.

Facebook has announced 0.facebook.com, a stripped-down Facebook site for emerging countries. 0.facebook.com is totally free for most carriers, especially those foreign services that charge by the kilobyte. Facebook sad it had signed up more than 50 mobile operators around the world and convinced them not to charge for the site.

There's a catch, though: not surprisingly, the Facebook Zero site strips all but the bare necessities. Users can post status updates and comment on other posts, but actually viewing the content (such as a picture) that another user has posted will require the user to click a link, and thus incur a data charge.

Facebook zero is yet to be available in Nigeria though but hopefully, we hope it soon will.
